Museum Catharijneconvent
In the Name of Love
Exhibition 12 juli 2025 - 1 mrt 2026
Love is universal and multifaceted, recognizable to everyone and different for everyone. Love is timeless and leaves no one untouched.
In many religions, love is an important pillar. The Bible is filled with texts about love – but also with texts about the lack of it. These and other stories from the Christian tradition have been a source of inspiration for artists for centuries. And even today, art is often influenced – directly or indirectly – by these stories.
In the Name of Love explores love from five perspectives: charity, family, relationships, the body and spiritual love. A contemporary or modern artwork is always the starting point. Art from different periods has been brought together around them. A journey through the many forms of love in the collection of Museum Catharijneconvent. What is recognizable, what touches and what grates? No fixed route, no ready-made answers – but an invitation to wander around and discover what love means to you.
