For over 400 years, the famous 15 Mysteries of the Rosary hung four meters high in the St. Paul’s Church in Antwerp. Now, for the first time, these monumental paintings are on display together outside the church at Het Noordbrabants Museum in Den Bosch, featuring masterpieces by artists including Peter Paul Rubens, Jacob Jordaens, and Anthony van Dyck.

In the exhibition, you see not only 17th-century masterpieces but also contemporary art by artists Mona Hatoum, Latifa Echakhch, Maria Roosen, Geraldo Dos Santos, and Cecilia Vicuña. Like the 15 mysteries, their work explores themes of memory, ritual, loss, connection, and what people pass on to one another. By presenting old and new art side by side, the exhibition demonstrates that these themes are timeless.

“De schilderijen hangen er nu in alle glorie bij in Den Bosch. Bescheiden glorie, want het museum heeft gekozen voor een rustige presentatie. Gedempt licht in zacht gekleurde zalen, geen overdadige lappen tekst en veel ruimte. Bezoekers schuifelen opvallend stil langs de drie groepen van telkens vijf werken. Het is alsof je in de vroege ochtend door een kathedraal loopt, terwijl buiten de toeristen nog aan de deur staan te rammelen. “
